What you’ll do
It’s safe to say, there’s no shortage of variety in what we do. Here are some key accountabilities of the role:

 

  • This position is responsible for managing daily operations of Merchandise Payable Department. This department supports the organization by providing accurate and timely disbursement of payments to all customers in compliance with government regulatory requirements, company policy, and appropriate internal controls, while maintaining excellent vendor relations, a commitment to creating a great place to work, and continuous focus on process improvement.
  • Manages and evaluates daily operations of Accounts Payable department to ensure controls are sound and processes are efficient; ensures critical KPIs are met (or exceeded) and accurate payments provided to merchandise vendors.
  • Ensures the department adheres to proper controls and procedures to safeguard company assets and provide assurance to internal and/or external auditors.
  • Recommends, assists in the development and/or implementation of new policies and enhanced controls.
  • Manages all aspects of Vendor Relations: ensures vendors and business partners are responded to in a timely manner and maintains excellent vendor relations. Leads the resolution of issues and escalations relating to timeliness of payments, application of payment terms, receipt of goods, validity of chargebacks, and/or negotiates resolution with vendors as needed.
  • Reconciles the A/P liability and purchase accounts; ensures variances are investigated and resolved in a timely manner.  
  • Analyzes workflows and work with the team to identify and implements continuous process improvements or systemic enhancements to increase department efficiency; Leads related projects and coordinate and review testing as needed.
  • Reviews productivity and volume forecast. Assesses staffing requirement and areas in need of support are optimized as needed to ensure the department is current in processing activities (vendors are paid on time, vendor inquiries are responded to in timely manner).
  • Identifies development needs of all team members, develop direct reports and actively participate in the development plan of indirect reports. Coaches and counsels’ team to enhance their business knowledge by assisting in developing learning plan to support individual and future business growth.
  • Prepares annual talent reviews for direct and indirect reports; prepares and delivers annual performance reviews for direct reports and review annual performance reviews prepared by Supervisor(s).

What you’ll need
To begin your career with us, we require the following:

 

  • A post-secondary Business/Commerce or Finance and Accounting related education; CPA designation is preferred (in-progress designations will be considered).
  • Minimum four (4) years of experience working in a Payables or Accounting environment; expertise in Accounts Payable (processes, procedures and controls) including an understanding of the company's policies, practices, and the ability to apply accounting principles (debits, credits, general ledger accounts, assets, liabilities, etc.).
  • Agile problem-solver able to obtain relevant data, design analytical models, and providing insight and/or recommendations to the business. Skilled in time management, conflict management, and capable of building strong collaborative relationships across the business.
  • Advanced knowledge of complex information systems (how information flows and integrates through complex environments).
  • Proven leadership and people management skills including recruitment, selection, and orientation of Associates, coaching and counseling team members, providing guidance to Supervisors in the resolution of problems. Ability to evaluate performance and providing actionable feedback to team.
  • Strong computer skills including spreadsheet creation (advanced structure and formula skills, pivot tables, graphs, and ability to interpret and manipulate large data sets within Microsoft Excel), intermediate-level word processing skills, e-mail, mainframe applications, and accounting software; experience using Tableau or Power Bi is considered an asset.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Salary Range: $85,430-$129,188 /year
